John Schultz is a member of the Healthcare Services and Medical Technology practices, leading the healthcare team’s efforts in private equity. He is based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul office and brings extensive global experience to his work. He specializes in senior-level executive recruitment across a broad range of functions with a successful track record of recruiting board directors, chief executive officers, division presidents and senior vice presidents in sales, marketing, research and development, finance and operations. John works with a broad range of global clients including Fortune 250 multinational corporations, high-growth venture-backed firms and numerous private equity portfolio companies in North America, Europe and Asia. John was recently recognized with Spencer Stuart’s prestigious Lou Rieger quality award for outstanding client service.

  • John has worked on more than 250 client engagements for public and private healthcare companies around the globe and takes a rigorous data-driven approach to his project execution and knowledge of the broader healthcare environment.
  • Before joining Spencer Stuart, John worked at another leading global executive search firm, where he specialized in senior-level searches for board, C-suite and other senior executive roles in the medical technology and healthcare services sectors.
  • Prior to entering the world of executive search, John was a marketing leader for Medtronic, overseeing marketing of the CoreValve transcatheter heart valve in the U.S. Previously, he built market development strategies for Medtronic's cardiovascular and cardiac rhythm disease management businesses out of the Mumbai office. He has also served in various marketing and business development roles in the company’s cardiovascular and neurological divisions.
  • John spent several years in corporate finance with a major global airline. Earlier, he spent several years with TripleTree, an independent merchant and investment bank focused on mergers, acquisitions, financial restructuring and strategic advisory services for technology and healthcare companies. John began his career as an actuarial consultant for Deloitte & Touche and William M. Mercer.

John received his B.S.B.A in actuarial science and finance from Drake University, and his M.B.A. from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
